Bioplastics

Many bioplastics can be produced in a more environmentally friendly and sustainable manner than conventional plastics, as they have a lower carbon footprint. Biodegradable plastics are designed to break down naturally through biological processes, such as the action of microorganisms under suitable environmental conditions. They can be derived from both renewable and fossil-based raw material sources. Bio-based plastics offer several advantages, such as reduced reliance on fossil raw materials, and can thus make an active contribution to climate protection. The consistent use of biomass as a raw material for plastics can result in significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions compared to the use of fossil raw materials. Bio-based plastics can be used in a wide range of applications, including the packaging, consumer goods, agricultural, textile, and automotive industries.

Because they are biodegradable, some bioplastics can break down into their constituent materials through microbial action. This has a direct impact on the environment by reducing environmental impact and preventing the generation of additional waste.
